慢性肾脏病是一种日益流行的疾病，尽管目前慢性肾脏病的防治有了飞速的发展，特别是通过积极地治疗高血压、糖尿病等相关疾病，可以有效地减少肾脏病的发生。但即使如此，目前仍有很多患者随着年龄的增长而饱受肾功能衰减之苦。为了了解饮食方式能否在肾脏健康方面带来额外益处，来自哥伦比亚大学医学中心的米内什 卡特里(Minesh Khatri)和他的同事们进行了这项研究。

卡特里说：“多项研究发现，坚持地中海饮食对很多健康问题都有一定正向作用，这其中包括心血管疾病、阿兹海默症、糖尿病以及肿瘤等等。越来越多的证据显示，不健康的饮食习惯与肾脏病风险相关。但是，我们之前还不知道地中海饮食对肾脏病是否会有帮助。”地中海饮食是一种著名的“健康食谱”，它鼓励人们进食更多的水果、蔬菜、鱼类、豆类以及不饱和脂肪，并且要求适当减少红肉、加工食品以及糖的摄入。

研究者们通过一项观察性的、以社区为基础的前瞻性研究检验了不同程度的地中海饮食与长期肾功能改变的关系。他们的研究纳入了900例受试者，随访了7年时间。最终研究发现，地中海饮食的评分每增加一分(较高的评分意味着受试者更好地坚持着“地中海”式的饮食)，受试者患慢性肾脏病的风险会随之降低17%。与地中海饮食要求最接近的受试者(评分≥5分)可降低50%慢性肾脏病的风险以及42%急性肾功能衰竭的风险。

在一篇同时发表的评论文章当中，来自布莱根妇女医院的朱莉 林(Julie Lin)教授表示，地中海饮食这样的健康饮食方式只是一个方面，要想达到健康的生活方式，还要加上规律的体育锻炼等诸多方面才行。她在文中写道：“尽管这看上去是一个很简单的目标，但是想要实现也是有挑战性的。我们需要知道，从来没有‘魔力药片’或者什么神奇的‘健康食物’，只有坚持约束和控制饮食，加上规律的锻炼，才可以实现健康的目标。”(编辑：窗敲雨)
