近日，发表在国际杂志Nature Genetics上的一篇研究报告中，来自墨尔本大学的研究人员通过研究发现了一种具有5倍抵御伤寒效力的基因突体，伤寒每年可引发数百万人死亡。

文章中，研究人员对越南和尼泊尔地区数百万伤寒感染个体和健康个体的基因组进行筛选分析，相关研究结果或可帮助开发抵御伤寒和其它细菌性疾病的新型疫苗。研究者Sarah Dunstan教授表示，我们发现了一种名为HLA-DRB1的特殊形式的基因或许可以帮助个体在自然状态下抵御伤寒症的侵袭。

据世界卫生组织数据显示，每年大约有2100万人会感染伤寒，而且大约有21.6万人至60万人死于该疾病。伤寒症是由于污染食品及水中的伤寒沙门菌及副伤寒沙门菌感染个体而致；研究人员发现的新型基因可以通过识别入侵细菌的特殊蛋白来保护机体免于感染，目前存在抵御伤寒沙门菌的疫苗，但其并不总是有效，而且并不适合接种于幼儿，因此开发针对广泛人群的伤寒疫苗就显得迫在眉睫。

最后研究者表示，值得注意的是，当前并没有被批准的用于抵御副伤寒沙门菌引发肠热病的疫苗，而在亚洲地区由副伤寒沙门菌引发的感染发生率日渐增长，而本文研究对于开发抵御伤寒症的新型疫苗非常关。研究者表示，他们后期还将通过更为深入的研究来促进新型疫苗的开发更上一层楼。
