低血糖是I型糖尿病患者治疗的一个关键性的障碍。根据文章的背景资料，强度扩增了的且具有自动化胰岛素给药暂停或低血糖时给药暂停功能的传感器胰岛素泵疗法是一种具有缩短显著低血糖持续时间及发作频率潜力的技术。

澳大利亚珀斯Princess Margaret儿童医院的Trang T. Ly， M.B.B.S.， D.C.H.， F.R.A.C.P.及其同事将2009年12月至2012年1月在澳大利亚招募的95名平均年龄为19岁的I型糖尿病患者进行了随机化的治疗分配：标准的胰岛素泵治疗（n = 49）或低血糖促发的自动胰岛素给药暂停（n = 46）达6个月时间。研究人员挑选了对低血糖觉察能力受损的患者，因为他们遇到低血糖事件的风险显著更高。有证据证明大约三分之一的I型糖尿病患者的察觉低血糖水平的能力是受损的。

研究人员发现，强度扩增了的且具有低血糖促发的自动化终止胰岛素给药功能的传感器胰岛素泵疗法可在I型糖尿病患者中降低严重及中度低血糖事件的组合发生率。在经过6个月的治疗及对基线低血糖发生率进行了控制之后，在低血糖促发胰岛素给药暂停组的严重与中度低血糖事件的数字从175下降致35，而在仅用胰岛素泵组的该事件数字从28下降至16.对该数据的分析表明，低血糖促发的胰岛素暂停给药组的经过校正的事件性低血糖发生率比仅用胰岛素泵组的发生率要低。

文章的作者写道：“这些发现表明，自动化的胰岛素暂停给药可在那些有着最多风险的患者中——即那些有着低血糖觉察能力受损的患者中——降低其低血糖事件的发生率。”
