已有研究表明，在诊断为糖尿病后的参加随访研究的儿童早期血糖控制较好。本研究的目的是分析长期血糖控制,过去的部分缓解,在瑞典糖尿病预测诊断史(DiPiS)研究确诊后的随访，并且与未参加随访的得到类似糖尿病护理的相同年龄的孩子比较。

对比较参加糖尿病风险随访(n = 51)和未参加随访的儿童(n = 78)从诊断以及随后的5年的糖化血红蛋白，胰岛素剂量、BMI、胰岛素泵使用,部分缓解剂量校正糖化血红蛋白和基线人口统计学资料。

结果显示，诊断前随访组一级亲属(FDRs)糖尿病比例较高(28% vs 5.6%)，在出生在瑞典的母亲受访者中，这一比例更高(100%对89%;p = 0.02)。两组间在每日总胰岛素剂量、泵浦使用或其他基线社会人口学因素方面没有显著差异。诊断时及诊断后1年、2年、3年、4年、5年的患儿糖化血红蛋白中位数均明显低于诊断前(均p < 0.05)，且与FDR状态无关。

我们的研究表明，与未纳入随访的对照组相比，在诊断为糖尿病之前纳入纵向随访的儿童，在诊断后5年，以糖化血红蛋白(HbA1c)为指标，血糖控制较好。1型糖尿病患者最初几年的血糖控制可能会影响长期结果和并发症，还可能提高未来纵向研究的参与率。
