研究者们对338例自发颅内压过低受试者和245例未破裂颅内动脉瘤受试者的外科手术频率进行了评估。

结果显示，自发颅内压过低组和颅内动脉瘤组患者外科手术病史百分比分别为3.3%(11例)和0.8%(2例)(P= 0.02)。前者在进行外科手术时的平均年龄为40.8岁，首次发生自发颅内压过低的年龄为45.6岁。在进行外科手术时的体重在95至166 kg不等(平均130 kg，BMI平均44.6)。首发自发颅内压过低时的体重范围为52至106 kg (平均77.5 kg，BMI平均26.4)。

从外科手术至首发自发颅内压过低这段时间的体重减轻52.5 kg。这期间的时间间隔为3至241 个月(平均56.5个月)。
