Peli1介导小胶质细胞中趋化因子和促炎细胞因子的产生，并促进T细胞和巨噬细胞浸润到CNS中。出乎意料的是，Peli1是WNV感染小鼠巨噬细胞、小鼠和人神经元以及小胶质细胞中所必需的。Peli1还在死于急性WNV脑炎的病人中被感染的神经元和邻近的炎症细胞中高度表达。在Peli1 - / - 巨噬细胞或神经元中，WNV复制受限，在WT小胶质细胞中诱导产生的病毒少，活性差，从而降低了小鼠的致死率。Smaducin-6具有阻断Peli1和IRAK1、RIP1和IKKε之间相互作用的功能，但Smaducin-6不抑制WNV引起的小胶质细胞激活。

总的来说，他们的研究结果表明，Peli1在WNV感染期间具有促进小胶质细胞活化的非免疫调节作用，并针对黄病毒感染细胞和复制，发现了一个新的潜在宿主因子。
