这项研究还揭示了为什么某些种类的抗抑郁药物会在某些人身上失效。

爱丁堡大学的研究人员指出了一种可以保护大脑不受抑郁症影响的关键分子。

研究小组研究了被培育出有缺陷的老鼠来激活这种叫做eIF4E的分子。

这些动物表现出抑郁的迹象,包括降低血清素的水平,而血清素是这种状况的标志。

这些老鼠还表现出与抑郁有关的行为变化,如对食物不感兴趣。

用一种常用的抗抑郁药——氟西汀来治疗,在小鼠体内无法产生反应。

这表明,对氟西汀有益的抗抑郁作用需要eIF4E的激活,这属于一种叫做选择性5 -羟色胺再摄取抑制剂(SSRIs)的药物。

研究人员说,这可能有助于解释为什么一些患者停止对ssri类药物的反应。

先前的研究表明eIF4E在调节大脑蛋白质合成方面起着关键作用。eIF4E的缺陷与其他神经系统疾病有关,包括自闭症和脆性X综合征。这是该分子首次与抑郁症有关。

专家表示,最新的研究结果可能有助于为抑郁症开发新的药物。
