血清钙和血管疾病的相关性已被报道，但这些研究结果的却无一致性。研究者进行了一项系统回顾以确定正常钙浓度人群中，循环钙浓度是否心血管疾病和死亡的风险相关。研究者搜索到2014年12月18号前PubMed的收录的相关文献。符合条件的研究为人类血清钙与死亡或心血管事件相关性的文章。要求至少一年的纵向随访研究。排除肾脏疾病或异常血钙的患者。两个研究人员独立提取数据。在可能的情况下，将结果列表。11项研究中

两个研究人员独立提取数据。在可能的情况下，将结果列表。11项研究中，五项研究报告血清钙和死亡之间呈显著正相关。八篇研究的荟萃分析的表明，血清钙每变化一个标准差，死亡的危险比为1.13（1.09，1.18）。13项研究中，八项研究报告了血清钙和心血管疾病之间的显著正相关关系。八项研究的荟萃分析表明，血清钙每变化一个标准差，心血管疾病的危险比1.08（1.13，1.04）。对于2个研究报告比值比，总标准差比值比为1.22（1.11，1.32）。对心血管危险因素进行危险因素分析时，合并危险率为1.04（1.01，1.08）。

其他研究表明血清钙与动脉疾病、钙化之间的相关性。这些观察数据表明，血清钙与血管疾病、死亡相关，但不能确定其因果关系。
